So tired.
Ugh. I haven't written for too long. Well, 4 days is long to me.
I'd been stressing over writing the Reborn Again stuff I posted on my wiki last night. I'm not even DONE with it all and I'm all worn out from writing it. Mostly because I had to try to figure out how BESM works AND write a whole set of custom rules for it. And I'm still not done with the fluff. I keep getting questions about all the important locations in RA world and it's bugging me that the docs are incomplete. GRR.
I've wanted to run the D&D roguelike game all bad, too, but because of all that other writing I had to cancel it... and now I'm supposed to run Emberdays today but I'm so damn worn out from worrying and writing and depriving myself of sleep that I'm so certain I won't be running my best game.
But, I really, really can't cancel again. *sigh* I seriously just want several days to rest my mind. I just keep praying that somehow I'll just pull out some amazing creativity out of nowhere and make this next part of ED work.
Truth is though, I really just want to lie down.
New RP projects...
Figures that now that I have more time to myself I'd do MORE RP, yes? These projects are meant to be a lot more lightweight and slower paced games than the other stuff I was trying, though. And it helps satisfy my curiosity about messing with non-Exalted systems!
Reborn Again: Destiny's End - Unfinished page for my BESM game, which should start in August after I'm settled in Montreal. I'm probably being a lil' slow with this one, but it's *Reborn Again* and so that requires some more attention to detail (read: perfectionism) from me to write all the necessary docs.
Roguelike Adventures! - A D&D 4e game, good ol' dungeon crawler in the style of a roguelike game. This site is more or less complete (with players' charsheets) and is almost ready to run. :O I just need to poke at the DM book and get a good method of churning out random dungeons and such.
Back! Dokuwiki updating / Rosalia sheet.
Jon and I brought some picnicky food and sat on some benches overlooking the St. Lawrence, between the long stairway leading up past the docks. It was relaxing and indeed as warm as the weather report promised! I sat there scribbling notes for Rosalia while Jon played Shiren the Wanderer (Eni: he says it's really hard. Like, possibly tediously hard, what with death being very punishing, making you start over at level 1 and all.)
Now that I'm back, I was going to type out my Rosalia stuff, and saw that Dokuwiki version DarksirenWiki is running needed updating. The notifications would have bugged me all through the sheet typing if I didn't upload the new version, so I did. But I think I am going to save upgrading Kalli's wiki till the current release is no longer a release candidate. :O
Woooo it works. Sorta. *snooore*
Hrmh garagh! I am so sleep deprived. WTF. x.x
But, I have Apache 2.2.8 now. [Edit: I was able to reactivate FancyIndexing so the default directory listings have images and info displayed again, like this. Took me a while to figure out how to suppress all but the minimum server info appended to the bottom of server generated pages, though. I needed to use the ServerTokens directive for that.]
I found out that however the Hostforweb techs updated Apache, it was with some sort of automated program. The httpd.conf is all pregenerated. It also says in the comments where it's generated from, in case I wanted to mess with that, but I could also use cpanel's include files in [apache_dir]/conf/includes, too. Also, a lot of commonly used modules were compiled statically into the apache install (which I checked with httpd -l), including the ever useful mod_rewrite.c.
Stabbity stab... wtf, Opera?! x.x
Yeah so... I was going to spend today working on Rosalia's sheet, and then I encountered some sort of maddeningly frustrating bug with the media manager submit button. (The media manager is that window that pops up when you add an image to a Dokuwiki page.)
The bug was unique to the ACH layout I've been using for mine and Kalli's wiki, and only occurred in Opera. Actually, I wouldn't have noticed it at all if Jon wasn't using Opera at the time -- I gave him an account on the DSWiki, so he could put up his first Ex2 char there, too. He went to upload his char's picture and the upload button just wouldn't work. Clicking it did nothing, mouse-overs didn't change the cursor as expected from the CSS... it was just a dud button.
I tried it on every other browser I have (Firefox, IE... god damn, even Safari) and the button worked fine. So I sat here for something like 6 hours just to hunt down what it was that Opera had a problem with.
Wiki wiki wheeeee....
I made not just one wiki but two today... um... yesterday. Whatever. Kinda sleep deprived here. :O
Here is DarksirenWiki ... 3.0, I guess. I rather like it. ^^ I guess I just couldn't get away from using purples. I like them! But I made the actual wikipage part of the layout a somewhat off-white for ease of reading. I hope it looks okay.
Well, Kalli liked it enough 'cause she wanted a wiki just like it. And I made it here: apocryphal_muse ^^ Not sure whether the colors look like craps or not. It's hard for me to tell. =_= Like, the RA wiki turned out to be too bright for my eyes, once I worked with it for a while. So I may just rehaul the layout instead! I swear, I like installing / configuring wikis more than actually writing stuff in 'em.)
Kalli... try the wiki (you can sign in with the username/pass you gave me) and let me know if there's anything wrong!
Insomnia, wiki futzing, Soul Collectors thoughts.
Mrrrr... I napped around 1 am and woke up at 5 am. Good going, me!
I'm messing with DarksirenWiki right now. I moved the PmWiki install I did at the beginning of the year over to my backups, and installed DokuWiki. Part of why I'm redoing that wiki yet AGAIN is 'cause I want to put Soul Collectors info on that wiki for my players -- along with other non-Emberdays RP concepts I've had -- and felt PmWiki was a little awkward for what I wanted to do.
(All the stuff about the Anthegenian Cycle and other original works will be going back up on the new wiki, too. I rather like Dokuwiki namespaces and it'll make it easier for me to organize!)
And speaking of wikis... I really want to get back to poking at EDWiki... it's just that all the immigration stuff has killed a great deal of my inspiration. Doesn't mean I can't run, though, I have plenty of stuff planned for ED right now. When I was planning for Iesan's intro (which won't happen for a little while, Grey lost his net again... *sniff*) I also wrote a good deal of planning for the beginning of Chapter 5.
What! I'm up early? O.O
Well... sort of... I got up like 4 hours ago... but I'm starting to get tired again. I am going to sit and write the rest of the Emberdays stuff and see if I have time to nap.
Hrm, on wiki stuff, I am already pondering switching the DarksirenWiki from PmWiki to Dokuwiki. I've been having a bit of a dilemma with PmWiki (that's kept me from actually USING DSWiki for what I intended) because of the way its wikigroups work. Dokuwiki has nested groups, and I actually find that a little more intuitive for what I want to do.
Also I'd like to move some of my charsheets from UnshapedWiki. Not all of them--just some. Easier if I'm using the same syntax. ^^; And I miss Dokuwiki, too. Since I gave UWiki away, I kinda still want one of my own... I already have the Reborn Again wiki as a PmWiki site, anyway.
But, not totally decided yet... anyway, I'll work on that some other time. Got ED stuff to write! Have a scene today, and another on Weds with Grey, so I'm probably going to use Tuesday as my alone-time day for the week. I like having at least one of those a week, now -- it's really, REALLY improved my mood.
Wiki tinkering, part 2... new year stuff!
Nyargh... I spent several more hours messing with PmWiki. I have such a love-hate with it sometimes. I ended up needing to look at where the default wikistyles were kept, and lo and behold, they're in scripts/wikistyles.php! DUH!
I had all this trouble with the Maguila skin because I wanted to make headings that weren't sidebar links, but it messed up the spacing all bad, so I needed to make a custom class. It didn't help that the CSS for Maguila doesn't seem very well-written. I mean, there's repeated elements everywhere, for one... I took out a few of the things I thought were redundant, but I'll have to clean it up more later.
I have a basic idea of how I'll organize the wiki now (including renaming/adding some projects), but I still have to mess with the right side bars. They're going to change depending on section, while the left one remains the same... I think.
I do feel kind of anticlimactic right now, having spent SO much time on New Years' Eve on this thing and I'm STILL not done, but I won't waste the rest of the night on it. So! Time to shower and get out the booze! We have apricot brandy and coffee liqueur and Thai food! It's just a celebration of 2, it looks like (unless I skype with some people, maybe.) I wish I could be happier, but... eh. :(
Another Drupal update + wiki tinkering.
So, we're updated to Drupal 5.5. Looks like 6 is already in beta now. Eep. ;.; But I'll probably wait to upgrade until the person that made the layout I'm using now updates it for Drupal 6, unless I find a better one in the meantime.
Meanwhile I've been messing with DarksirenWiki. This time, I'm using the new Maguila skin based on BeeblebroxNetGila. The CSS is a monster -- the author used a LOT of hacks. But as a result the site looks good on pretty much every browser I've tried it on... except for a nitpick I'm having with IE 6. God, I hate IE. It's telling when your site looks better on Safari than IE! :P
Seriously, I'm not even going to LOOK at how it looks on IE 5.
I'm amazed that my site looks decent on Safari at all, though! The only funky part is the main title image above, and it's probably 'cause the colors on it aren't web-safe. I might see if I can ask Jon to alter it (Imageready should be able to make a web-safe image, I hope. Or maybe I should make it PNG? Maybe. :P)
