Celebrities
RIP Natasha Shneider, cover song project.
I found out last night that Natalie Shneider (I knew her best from the band Eleven and from her work with various artists particularly Chris Cornell) died a few months back from cancer. She was one of my vocalist idols and I was completely caught off guard by the news she actually passed away.
It was mostly because Jon and I were listening to some CDs we've not heard in a while from our collection. One of the ones I picked up was Eleven's Howling Book and I was all "hmm, let's see if they have a new album??" only to find out the sad news.
Then I got the idea for a cover album (well, more like EP, maybe 5-6 songs) that Jon and I could try to put together, as one of Anthegenia Records' first projects. We really want to get at least enough gear together to start on it next year.
Why I won't buy American Apparel.
I totally can't take this guy seriously.
"This guy" being Dov Charney, the CEO of American Apparel -- which I swear has to be the skankiest clothing store out there, with the equally skanky "hi! we're a bunch of amateur soft-core porn models" advertising. And let's not forget he does many of the photo shoots for said advertising himself. He specifically eschews touching the pictures up with Photoshop and whatnot, which I would applaud, except that the pics end up with something of a heavy-on-the-flash "Myspace whore" look to them. Nasty.
Oh and let's not forget to mention how open with his sexuality he is, including having relations with the younger girls he works with... of course, insisting that it's all consensual, and about sexual freedom, and he encourages a casual work place and so on.
Yay insomnia! Richard Dean Anderson, Britney Spears.
(I didn't sleep till past noon, and only for 5-6 hours, ish... but yeah... I started this entry then, and am continuing it now!)
I've been sitting here poking half-heartedly at Dragonrealms (Atma is still 4 weapon ranks away from her next circle) and reading celebrity articles again. So odd that I've become interested in that only during this partial and indefinite hiatus I've been on since last month.
First on my list of celebrity stuff I read is this Richard Dean Anderson fansite. That being the actor who portrayed MacGyver as well as a leading role in Stargate SG-1. There's something both heartening and disappointing about reading about the real life of a character you liked. I guess with the character you end up having certain hopes and expectations, and not all of those are fulfilled.
Really, celebrities are people too? :O
I spent a couple hours today reading a site with a lot of really vitriolic and mocking posts about Britney Spears. Of course, at the same time it posted plenty of shots of her showing OMG, a NIPPLE! and some snatch shots and whatnot. Yeah... the author(s?) don't like her but they probably still jack off to her.
I'm no fan of Britney and I certainly think she could be a better mother (or at least fess up she can't take care of the kids and give them up). On the other hand I find it sad when people who used to happily fantasize about this girl look at her with such disgust and disdain now that she's fallen. Yeah, so she's spoiled, she spends money indiscriminately, abuses drugs and alcohol, neglects her children. Those ARE bad things. But she is also a very emotionally sick person and I don't think it's all that funny to laugh at just how far she's gone.
