Remaking Jadira
I'm really having fun with Outcastes on the Open Sea so far. We haven't started play yet (that's tomorrow) but I'm actually enjoying the process of setting up, approving character sheets, writing rules and such.
It really DOES help not to be doing it in real time. A *lot*. You can actually think I might even be good at it from how I am on forum, hah.
But I'm feeling a little burnt out from too much RPoL now. Gah. I am going to go do other stuff in a bit...
Wanted to post my new desc of Jadira though :D
Emerald-eyed Jadira Thornbloom appears in her mid 20s, with long, curly brown hair that falls down to her waist when unbound. Her skin is fair and bronzed by the sun, and freckles during the warmer months. She is of average height with a trim, athletic figure -- a lovely woman, but also a woman hardened by years at sea as a renegade Dragon-blood.
Those years have also given her a somewhat stern demeanor, but she has a softer side, and may at times be caught smiling wistfully in reminiscence of her past. She far from lacks the capacity to care for people, and will not hesitate to give words of encouragement when needed.
Jadira's clothing is more functional than pretty, though finely made. Her typical outfit is a fitted longcoat of dark green with red floral trimming, dark leather pants laced with sinew at the hips, and sturdy brown boots. A low-slung belt bears two holsters for her custom flamepieces, and a sheath for what looks to be a long knife, which she very rarely wields.
Her preferred weapons, though, are long-range. She is both first mate and weapons officer of the Spring Dryad II, and thus both commands the gunnery crew and controls the ship's armory. Her own prized weapons are both unusual and difficult to miss, and she treats them with care and reverence: a portable Essence Cannon (fondly nicknamed "Baby") and a Lookshy strongbow (which she calls "Darling"). How Jadira and her Captain acquired such armaments are stories of adventure in and of themselves, but she very rarely speaks of them.
Jadira also has a penchant for taking on alternate personas as the situation befits, sometimes even changing her appearance dramatically to fit the act. She has several of them, and may even come up with new ones on the fly. One of them (probably the best known to the crew) is a lively, sweet-hearted girl named Aislynn O'Keefe, identified by her brilliant curtain of aquamarine hair.
I am going to love playing her. Though compared to the PCs she got a lot more things like spells and resources rather than charms. :O So she doesn't even have Swallows Defend the Nest yet. And she doesn't even have a powerbow, which is odd, but also kind of cool because there's two other charas who do use powerbows.
To give her a different niche I decided to give Jadira unusual weapons. After all her original equipment was likely confiscated by Lookshy anyway, possibly sent back to the Realm on her exile.
So she has
- Lookshy strongbow, which amuses the heck out of me because it's basically a torque bow like Rambo uses in the Rambo movies. XD
- Small sized Concussive Essence Cannon. For which I had to bump Jadira up to 4 strength just to use. Mwahaha.
- Pair of flame pieces... like the Lookshy bow, not artifacts, but they're exceptional quality and double-barreled (so they actually fire two shots each).
The story behind the strongbow is that I decided when Jadira and Lasuri finally skipped out of Lookshy prison, they actually managed to snag the bow they were supposed to take for the Grandquest, too. So Jadira uses it now as a kind of "ha ha, screw you Lookshy" gesture (fortunately she's way over in the West now...)
The cannon, I haven't thought in detail how she got but it's all tied up in how she and Lasuri 'acquired' the ship now called the Spring Dryad II, the Cobalt Alliance's flagship. :D Oh and (did I say this already?) the Cobalt Alliance is basically the name of the PCs' group, an nation-independent group of pirates and explorers. They do have a letter of marque from Coral (which incidentally was *also* one of the Grandquest items, see a trend? :D), but that doesn't mean they consider themselves citizens of Coral.
And the flame pieces are just a fun addition. Jadira has high Resources (she's basically holding both her and Lasuri's funds, we decided we'd divide things like ship, crew, money, etc. between us) so I thought "well why not? Exceptional flame pieces are only Res 3 and she has Res 4."
Jadira has the crew outfitted in exceptional equipment, too, 'cause of those Resources. Which I'm proud of 'cause hey, crew needs some love, too! But I couldn't afford to grab an implosion bow. Aww. I might actually be able to buy one for the ship with someone else's donated Background Points (he didn't want them) but I'm kinda not wanting to start the game with one. So still trying to figure out what else to do with 3 dots of Backgrounds.
We'll see I guess! I need to stop thinking about this game for like... a day. x.x
P.S. Aislynn is the persona Jadira used when she and the other GQ folks pulled a casino con in Nexus. I was really fond of Aislynn and love the story attached to her origins, so decided to keep the persona (and Jadira's taste for acting and disguise) for my Outcastes game.
