Argh, busy
Sorry, I just got into this binge of messing with things on my webserver, and I'm just too focused on it to really be around or do anything else. Gets me too cranky, too, so I just... need to be left alone to do this stuff. D:
I got sidetracked from the bbpress dice roller plugin I'm writing, though. :( I spent all yesterday messing with Python (2.5, if only because 2.6 just came out this *week* and I'd rather wait). Been trying to configure Django which is starting to interest me as the next gen darksiren.net, but I'm still poking at figuring how to make it display with apache / mod_python.
Also, I'm worrying about space left on my webserver, as I'm at 60% of 15GB and that makes me a bit paranoid. Trying to mess with log rotation, right now. But I may also consider upgrading the VPS. $20 more bucks a month guys :( so who wants to donate?!
Oh, and I had to fix webnote, because changing Python messed it up royally. I reinstalled it but need to fix the layout still. Some things to remember:
python specific
- I'm configuring new python installs with prefix 'usr/local'
- python packages I install manually go to the /usr/local/lib/pythonX.X/site-packages directory
- If I (or if some other automated installer like cpanel) install new python, it'll set a different lib directory, so gotta remember that
webnote specific
- chmod 755 the executables, duh
- webnote prefixes its .py executables with #!/usr/bin/python, however my new python install is /usr/local/bin/python (had to create symlink at /usr/bin/python to avoid having to change every .py file)
- for gods sake, remember to change strings.js.en to strings.js or I'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out why the webnote display loads but the buttons don't work D:
- don't forget to create /logs/webnote-debug.log and give webserver access to /logs dir (can also change log location in /etc/common.py)
Okay and now I need to mess with activating log rotation for apache and cpanel logs, because... holy crap, 50M is way too big for a log file.
Ungh, and I haven't even really made progress on the dice roller. Still trying to figure out where to put the plugin hooks. I need a hook during post entry to display the form to enter die roll(s), and a hook to display stored rolls by post. The rolls themselves will be stored by database, though I think I'm just going to create the database schema manually for now.
One thing at a time I guess. I think I actually really hate being a programmer/sysadmin. Too high stress a job. =_= I'll only really endure it when I have a goal in mind.

As always, I have no comment on the subject at hand. Instead, I give you Tales of the Abyss' Mieu!
I'm amused that when people think of Mieu they're more likely to see TotA Mieu than Phantasy Star 3 Mieu.
I'd actually be willing to donate. o_o Were you serious about that? Cause I will!
I often talk about setting up a donation button on this site. Just feel like a dumbass 'cause I think it'd make me seem pretentious. :P
Would you be able to donate with paypal? I think that'd be the best way, the same card I use to pay for this site is hooked up to my paypal account.
(P.S. The next VPS upgrade would be $60/month. pretty hefty. The site isn't in any danger right now, but more space, ram and cpu power would be very, very nice. *drools at the thought*)
Well considering how many people you lend space and bandwidth to for free I don't think it's pretentious at all. Paypal would work fine, I think, I've used it to pay back some stuff to James before by donating to Kethmar. XD
Although I wouldn't trust Paypal too much if you get a lot of donations, or bigger ones, but that shouldn't be the case here at all, so it should be fine.
Besides I never get you anything for your birthday or christmas, so it'd help alleviate some of that guilt. :P
What's your PayPal address?
I made a donation button a little while ago but no one besides Eni actually donated to it despite people saying they would. Not unexpected really. Anyway.
if you just want the address, I don't really like to post my personal email address publicly :( so please use the link.
