Monday -- RP, Alias, new game ideas
Monday (yesterday, now) was not so bad, minus the fact I didn't really sleep enough. D: Mostly, I just ran a small Emberdays scene for Milena, which was short and slow (we often are), but fun. I couldn't run a full session because Grey was AWOL, but I'm happy 'cause everyone's in the right spot to come together next week now, AND I have more time to write stuff ahead of time (even maybe gasp, a few partially statted enemies. Dunno!)
I've been letting Kalli play my DR account, so she's been giving me accounts of how well Atma's training up. Before it was Lucylla (my Siren-alike). But I told her "plz train my weaksauce barb" and she was "all over that like flies on shit." XD Awesome. I'm so lazy I get my friend to train my DR charas for me, apparently! So Atmadja's at 14th now and Lucy is... 8th? 9th? Not sure.
I've got Talliska in Riverhaven but haven't logged her in yet today, 'cause I ended up rambling about some RP ideas (more on that next) and watching some Alias with my husband. I THINK I said Jon got the first DVD set, and I'm eating up this series. It's just SO good! "Spy-fi" is an amusing name for a genre, too. There's this part of me that's all *fangirlz* wanna be Sydney, and this other part that says "holy crap, that kind of double life -- or triple life as the case may be -- really SUCKS."
I even think that my watching Alias is going to end up affecting Emberdays to some extent. I just love complicated spy games and political intrigue. I really do. I love the fact that there's so many potential friends and enemies in the Realm that it can be hard to know where you stand or just how much support you really have. Also, funky minor artifacts that look like ordinary items. I already have Elyssa with her communication earrings. SO awesome.
Mostly, though, I just LOVE RPing the Realm! o.o I love plotting out the long term conflicts between the Great Houses. I love that the relationships between Jackal and the Jackal's Fangs, the Eye and the Sidereals, the various Sidereal Factions, even people within Jackal's own group of (sometimes dubious) allies are just so multifaceted. And then you have the more mundane branches of law and government, from the magistrates to the Deliberative Senate to the ministers, and the Scarlet Legions and the secondary school academies. Just... so much stuff. So tangled I don't even expect my players to remember it all, and I've got very extensive notes.
Wow, that was a tangent. Anyway, Alias just tickles my love for that sort of thing and so I go "wheeee~!" And then they go and put elaborate disguises on top of that. Best. TV series. Ever.
Anyway: RP ideas. Again. My ideas just come randomly on days when I'm not expecting them.
Idea #1: Reborn Again RP. So Eni was saying "grarr want to play something non Exalted!" (or something to that effect) and was going on about BESM. And Selina mentioned wanting to play Macross BESM, and then all three of us tossed around random ideas based on games we all played or anime we all watched. At one point, after we'd rattled off a whole lot of ideas, I said "Breath of Fire!" and everyone went "duh!" and then while figuring out which game setting to play in, Eni said "why don't we make one up?"
And then I thought, "hey wait. I already HAVE one made up. It's Reborn Again!" So I mentioned it. And whoa. I think I may actually do it. Reborn Again BESM, odd. Or maybe some other Tristat-based system... I'm not really sure what the difference is, honestly. I'm mostly just interested in a lightweight highly customizable system that I could fit the existing magic systems, technology, cosmology, races and so forth I've already come up with for RA.
The hard part, of course, is writing all the docs I'll need to write for this concept. WELL! I do at least have till August to do it, since I figure it'd be better to start after Eni is back from the U.S.
Idea #2: D&D 4th Edition Roguelike. Later on I went and told Kalli about my RA idea and she got REALLY interested in the idea. I told her the RA game would have a non-Exalted system, and blah blah, and I am pretty sure she'd like to try it out (4 players is nice.)
But anyway, while rambling about that she brought up D&D 4th again, and I suggested we do some simple dungeon crawler just to try out the system and play for fun. My idea was something like a roguelike game -- go into the dungeon and see how long you can last, or get the big treasure / kill the nasty badguy and come out alive. A true dungeon crawler, the likes of which I've not played with tabletop since I was 10 or something.
Since then we've been brainstorming about it, downloading tools and pdfs and such. I think I'm pretty serious about trying this out! :D Just me, Jon n' Kalli on some off day playing a dungeon crawler game based on D&D 4e. Awesome. We're even thinking of actually using the ADOM story so I don't have to come up with an original concept (all of us already like and know ADOM anyway!) I went and downloaded a map generator and the 4e Monster Manual. Mwaha, this will be FUN.
(As long as I stay motivated, that is!)
