Good news first. Yay, Juri!

So I got accepted to theworldrp. I'm starting to play Juri already (here's her LJ, btw: la dame vaillante, which means "the valiant lady") which has been fun. :O

Apparently Kalli says I am a big hit. ?! Not sure how that happened. I ended up getting onto an AIM chat with a bunch of the girls RPing in "the world" and they all seem really nice and fun. I am seriously UNUSED to being accepted in fandom. I mean... this is the first time I've done ANYTHING related to fandom since the Breath of Fire days. Crazy. But they're great ladies. I felt welcome... I really, really appreciate that.

As for the RP... I kinda feel like I'm cheating, really. My characterization of Juri is not all that far off from Archana. In fact, I ultimately chose her for just that reason. The difference of course is that Archa is a soldier/priestess, and Juri more of a socialite/aristocrat.

Also, Revolutionary Girl Utena is one anime I can say I know fairly well. I have a LOT of room for speculating and branching off from canon because now Juri is older, graduated and in the "real world" as opposed to Akio's lil' imaginary world where people stay stuck in their pasts. (The story of the anime itself is an allegory for growing up, losing one's innocence and becoming an adult. I like to think Juri is one of the first supporting charas to leave Ohtori Academy voluntarily.)

I'm already coming up with plenty of plots I'll get Juri involved in, as well as things she can do to assimilate better into modern Japanese culture as well as further her own goals. Right now, she wants to go to university, but needs money and/or higher social status to get there. Unfortunately, she's pretty much a foreigner there, and thus will need to either get herself a job, or attach herself to people who can bolster her reputation and social standing.

The head mod (Herr Mod!) Miaka inadvertently gave me the idea of having Juri marry someone for convenience. I don't know if I'll follow through with it, but it'd be one of the quicker ways to get high up in society fast. The problem would be finding someone to marry that Juri finds worthy of partnering with (and he'd have to be willing to have a platonic relationship. Hell, she wouldn't give a shit if he went and had babies with concubines or mistresses. I mean, she's a lesbian. :P) So, that's just a distant possibility.

I liked the idea because it was similar to Dynast marriages in Exalted, though. Familiar ground always appeals to me, and honestly, my Juri would fit pretty well in the Realm. o.o There are plenty of other ways I can think of Juri improving her position, though -- for example by arranging some sort of alternate identity for herself as a foreign model/actress, or passing off as a daughter of one. Of course, that'd be the more illegal route, but I might end up with some HELP in that respect... maybe. :O

In any case I'm more likely to be playing Juri more as a socialite than a combatant, at least at FIRST, because she can't even concentrate on continuing to train her swordsmanship until she can settle comfortably in her new environment. And I don't think she'll settle for least, not if she can find a way to maneuver things to her favor and let her apply to one of Japan's more *prestigious* universities.

I'm totally not sure how the mods are going to handle jobs and university and such, though. So I'll have to wait and see.
