Woooo it works. Sorta. *snooore*

Hrmh garagh! I am so sleep deprived. WTF. x.x

But, I have Apache 2.2.8 now. [Edit: I was able to reactivate FancyIndexing so the default directory listings have images and info displayed again, like this. Took me a while to figure out how to suppress all but the minimum server info appended to the bottom of server generated pages, though. I needed to use the ServerTokens directive for that.]

I found out that however the Hostforweb techs updated Apache, it was with some sort of automated program. The httpd.conf is all pregenerated. It also says in the comments where it's generated from, in case I wanted to mess with that, but I could also use cpanel's include files in [apache_dir]/conf/includes, too. Also, a lot of commonly used modules were compiled statically into the apache install (which I checked with httpd -l), including the ever useful mod_rewrite.c.

I also went ahead and updated DarksirenWiki and Kalli's wiki to the new Dokuwiki verison that just came out just a week ago. The update was pretty straightforward, just installed the new files over the old ones and deleted the obsolete files listed here. I had to chmod 775 / chgrp [apache_user] the newly added data/tmp directory, and that's about it.

I need to really get on the ball with updating Drupal, too, which will involve revamping the layout of my main site, as well as upgrading both the core code and modules I've installed over the years. It's a little bit of a pain and I'm almost tempted to just start my site over with a fresh install of Drupal 6. I'm even too lazy to upgrade Anthegenia to 6.1!

But now I'm poking at Rails. I have something here! Well, all I really did was create a new rails project and put a symlink within the web directory. In fact... doing that made me realize a MUCH simpler way I can do Kraken's public_html. All I have to do is move his entire web directory over to *his* homedir, then put a symlink to it from *my* public_html. That way he never has to access anything through my directory at all.

Duuuuh... sad how I never thought about doing it that way until now. I feel like a dumbass! At least I figured it out in time, because my sis is asking me for webspace and shell access now, too. *slaps forehead*

Oh yeah, I had to add a VirtualHost configuration to httpd.conf to get Rails working. I followed the Apache snippet in #5 of this page (but I didn't have to do any LoadModule since the modules had already been compiled into my install.

Still haven't actually written any code with RoR. Kind of hard to, really, since I don't really know *Ruby* well at all... but I like writing web apps more than anything else so it was important for me to get Ruby working online. I also wanted to work with Mysql since that's the database type I already have installed; that involved finding and installing mysql-ruby (the C API, not the Ruby Gem), then refreshing myself on how to create and manipulate Mysql users and databases from the command line. Well, technically I could've used cpanel to do all the mysql stuff, but I wanted to learn how to manually do things, too. I probably still have to read up a little more on grant tables, which are used to assign privileges to users.

I think I'm FINALLY getting tired, though, so I'm going to take a nap... well, so much for being around in the afternoon. I'm more likely to be passed out till evening. ^^;; and I do want to get some Sims 2 in before Emberdays tomorrow, either that or more messing with Ruby on Rails.

Brain's too fuzzy to make any more coherent sentences... *falls into bed*
