So glad to be home...

Man, I suck at being social. I think I actually miss my online and RP life. What a geek I am. :/

My sis leaves in something like 10 hours, but I'm not coming along so I don't have to sleep early if I don't want. And I don't. :D I'm going to be lazy.

I'm poking at installing Ruby on darksiren.net right now. Finally! I have Ruby itself installed but still have to install RubyGems and Rails. Stupid me, I never even knew the 'wget' command existed until I looked at a Ruby installation tutorial for installing on CentOS 4.6 (which is what the ol' webserver runs right now). Well, at least I know now, and it'll help. :D

Can't wait till I have some money to buy some hardware to run my own personal server, separate from darksiren.net. Then I can finally experiment with Linux stuff without worrying I'll screw up my data!

But for now, I'm going to study Ruby stuff. I got a few helpful links from Kraken, here and here. There's also Programming Ruby: The Pragmatic Programmer's Guide. Mmm, making my own Ruby apps for the web! It's going to be awesome... or so I hope. I've still got to learn the syntax and best practices and such.

Oh! And I also ended up spending several hours laaaate last night to write an application for a forum RP. WTF, yeah... that came out of nowhere! Especially since it's a totally freeform RP. I'm a bit apprehensive about playing freeform with people I don't even know, but the game concept really caught my eye.

I found out about it through one of the RPG promotion communities I'm in on Livejournal, and thought it quite fitting for one of my character concepts. In fact, it's the one I was making for Eutopia Project! (Who is always named "Leah", from the PJ Harvey song, "My Beautiful Leah".) The game premise just happens to bear some strong similarities to my own post-apocalyptic setting, so Leah just seemed like a natural choice. So I hope I can get in. At the least it can help me get a better feel of the character, and see for myself what works and doesn't work with the game premise, too.

Well, I'd say more but I'm about to have a fondue dinner and a last game of PSU before sis goes to sleep. Man, what an exhausting week! n.n I'm going to have plenty of time to mess with Ruby and poke at Emberdays preparations tomorrow.
