RP stuff! Wardragon, Ex2 griping.
Wardragon was short today. That's all right, I had fun posting Archana as usual. ^_^ I wanted to remind myself of some things for Archa to say next week, but I'll do that at the end of the post.
I told the ST for the one-shot game that I need more time for my charsheet. I think I have a pretty good idea of how Riezsa's sheet will come together now, though. The hard part is the background, but ST's not really looking for complex stuff, so I should be ok with that. I think. ;.; I have a hard time figuring out a Motivation for her, probably because the Solar book keeps shoving "YOU MUST MAKE IT EPIC!!!111oneoneleven" in my face.
God, I really hate that, actually. Why does heroism to the point of arrogance like that have to be a *requirement* for being a Solar? I like the idea of being a Solar but without the righteousness attached. I mean, one of the examples for a Solar Motivation is actually "destroy the Realm and all the Dynasts" or some such.
Yeah, stereotyping much? Sure, a lot about the Realm is corrupt, but NOT EVERYONE IN IT is. If I knew a Solar who wanted to just wholesale destroy every Dynast in the Realm, I'd want to kill HIM!
Now, I have a Solar concept from Gem. (BTW, I don't even GET the Gem inside joke. Like that thing about Gem exploding or whatever. Whut? I just don't pay attention to that stuff.) But I can't think of some sufficiently "epic" purpose for her. The one thing I came up with is that Riezsa wants to inspire people to stand up for themselves. I don't see her going out of her way to right what's wrong in Gem. Actually, what they really need is not even so much the removal of the Despot (though that might help)... what they need is a competent politician and bureaucrat that practices some good, solid ethics.
People never THINK in these "epic heroism" games of what will happen once a ruler or particular societal structure is suddenly destroyed. How do you know it won't just lead to the collapse of what remains? Geez. I guess I am just a weirdo, though. I actually REALLY like Exalted, but despise playing it solely to be "epic" the way that Solar games tend to be.
And Ex2, as written, actually emphasizes the impression of Solars as righteously, arrogantly heroic ALL THE MORE. *shudders*
I can say right now that Soul Collectors is going to downplay that a lot. In fact, it will likely be VERY much AU in terms of how the Exalted world is handled. But I'll detail more about that next post.
Here's some notes for myself concerning what the PCs will bring up in Wardragon next week.
- The South: Why was it defeated if Asferate's army is strong?
- The East: Isn't the war mostly over here? Everything's desolate. There's hardly any fighting left to DO. (Also, note that the PCs are actually good authorities on confirming this, they just traveled a LONG swath of the East.)
- (from Kraken/Sky) What's Asferate going to do when his soldiers get sick from the Contagion?
- (from Jon/17) Better hope Asferate has an army of doctors! D:
Also, Asferate is a total arrogant prick! :D (speaking of arrogant Solars...) but, I think that reaction is totally what Grey intended. Hee. It's more interesting used as a plot point to make Solars seem imbalanced and unreliable. >.> Which they are, particularly in the Wardragon setting, since we're playing at about the time when the Usurpation would have been in planning. O sh!t. Are the PCs going to lead the Usurpation? Just a thought. x.@
Archana forced herself to be very calm -- yay for high Temperance! -- but man, Asferate was a total ass to her. She will need some way to let off some steam after the 'dinner' scene is over. As usual, can't wait till next week! :D
