More DR. Undecided on Emberdays delay.

I admit it. Most of my day (besides getting food and sleeping a lot) was playing DR. Got Talliska to 25th circle. Amazingly enough, it only took me a day. But that's a lot of hours or play.

Got her Hands of Lirisa so now she can start arranging corpses before skinning. Also raised stamina to 20 (last level I raised her agility to 22). While going to Riverhaven to spend TDPs, I found out from some people on the ferry that there was some sort of event involving Prince Vorclaf announcing some new laws and military changes in Zoluren.

I've been pretty out of it with the DR events, so I went and looked into it. Brought Atma to snoop around in Ulf'hara Keep, where Vorclaf has his audiences, but it'd already ended by then. I did manage to overhear some conversations between members of the Zoluren Militia, though, and pieced together more or less what was going on from that as well as web sources.

Short story is that there seems to be a big reorganization / downsizing / whatever you might call it of the Zoluren militia. Also, some laws have been changed / tightened in the province, it seems. There's people who are unhappy about the changes, while those still part of the militia generally support them.

There was a couple of events earlier on that impacted Prince Vorclaf earlier on. 1) His wife, the Merelew princess Arilana, got "killed" by an assassin of some sort named Enef. She had favor with the gods, so survived, but her unborn baby did not. 2) Some woman named Natashya, who was apparently doing pretty shady things since the Sorrow War, ended up stirring some trouble in Zoluren. I know even less about it, but apparently she was double-crossing, or something, and she ultimately ended up dying for it. Vorclaf was upset for some reason about how it was handled and ended up tearing down the banner of Vorclaf's Scythes in a rage.

And now the Scythes have apparently been disbanded. Or resigned. Or something. I'm not really sure which. But there was already some dissatisfaction within the Scythes beforehand because they thought they were being targeted unfairly, with things like freezing recruitment (which other militia leaders say happened to every unit in Zoluren while new rules for recruitment were drafted), their leadership questioned and so on. I don't really know the whole story 'cause I'm finding out about most of this after the fact.

I do know that one of my friends in game, Halcier, said that Vorclaf just plain disbanded the entire unit that he was a part of, because apparently his commander did some bad things. He didn't really explain how the commander got sacked, but the result was that ALL of his commander's troops were also left without a job and told to try and get jobs within the other remaining units. Pretty bad way to treat 'em, especially a guy like Halcier who I PERSONALLY know did more than his part within the militia.

That was the whole reason why Halcier wanted to move to Theren, by the way. I'm rather liking the vibe in Theren, it's much more friendly and the RPers aren't so... well, I don't know how to say it. Full of themselves? Or maybe insular is a better word. Theren feels closer to the ambiance of Ratha and Aesry, which I also really liked, than that of Shard or Zoluren. Just feels more open and friendly, I guess. Also helps that there's less people looking for events or GMPCs to gain fame and recognition. Admittedly, though, Theren isn't hiring right now, while Ilithi is. And Zoluren, being the busiest province, always has people looking for the next opportunity to make a name for themselves.

There's a lot of criticism flying around about DR militias lately. It is rather sad that something that could've been a good idea just doesn't work in retrospect because more people are thinking more about getting their recognition than working as a team, or caring about the RP. As a result, the people who DO care about the RP end up rather elitist themselves, which I find just as difficult to put up with. I feel like there's never really going to be a place for me in major DR events, because I'd like RP to come naturally, rather than people all swarming over this or that event because they want to be a part of something GM-sanctioned.

That and I REALLY don't have the time to sit around and wait for events to happen, anyway. I have other hobbies, other friends, and other things to do!

Ah well. Fortunately I have my Exalted RP, where I can play in small bits a week and know I won't be left out, and play a character that impacts the story without really having to suck up to anyone. Still not sure if I am really up to running Emberdays this Monday, though. Sigh... the more I think about it, the more I feel it'd be better to delay. But on the other hand, I'm always afraid that if I delay people will get restless or forget about my game. So eh. I don't know. I would rather not run it and be stressed, but I'm still going to wait until Sunday to give people my final decision.

Ya know, I kinda wish DR wasn't pay-to-play. I'd probably give it another shot. But I am notoriously bad at MUDS because I have trouble in non-graphical settings (my bad sense of direction carries over to text-based things, I guess).
