Yeah... just one day in and I'm already getting that iffy feeling. Sigh. I should have thought about it more before committing, I guess. Or looked at more reviews. In terms of the PROMISED features, Gate.com was perfect, but just isn't delivering. Fine, I don't have much experience with IIS. But ARGH! I shouldn't have to ask the techs on the FIRST DAY why I can't access my account through ftp or browser. It just starts me off on a REALLY bad foot... and that's after having to call.
So now I am wishing for an extra $30. Sigh, will probably end up pulling it out of my pocket, because I'm fairly certain I will end up switching again tomorrow. Thing is, I found another really good (even BETTER) deal with Webstrike. $30 for the whole FIRST YEAR. The downside is, gotta pay extra for MSSQL (other databases are still supported though) and also, think I have to pay for domain name. So it's more like $50 I'll need because the payment is for 2 years. Sigh. :/
Sadly, I'm realizing that if you pay low you really DO pay for shit. Webstrike has a big ++ in my book because I've seen it rated at least as high as darksiren.net's host, HostForWeb, and I've NEVER felt ashamed of recommending HFW to anyone. Plus I've already looked for info through Webstrike's database and they have great documentation there, lots of options for customer support. What does Gate do? Not even let you access support without an account, forcing you to CALL them if you don't have one, and even then taking an entire day (at least -- haven't gotten my reply yet) to answer your questions.
Screw that! Tech support should be 24/7 if you ask me. What's the use in having all those shiny features if they go wrong and you can't contact anyone to fix them? Sorry, but with websites, uptime is ALL IMPORTANT.
I guess I've just been spoiled by HFW. Hey, why shouldn't I want the same sort of service I get from them for a Unix server, in a Windows-based server? That's really what I'm looking for, and I realized it after getting shafted with Gate. I'm so unhappy, in fact, that I don't even WANT to wait until they email me -- I'd rather just cancel and be done with it. Sad thing is, I wonder whether I'll have to call them to cancel, too. Which will of course mean tons of questions. Damn them. It's my money and I already paid the first month, they better let me cancel!
I'm also really agitated because I wanted to start work on sim-chan stuff already. Gaaaaaah. Inconveniences suck! Especially when they lead to me 1) wasting money and 2) needing MORE money to make up for it. Hrm. I wonder if I put a Paypal donation link on here people would actually donate? I've asked myself that before and am curious. Maybe I should. I need money. n.n And I DO do hosting for people, set up websites and wow, once in a while even create stuff!!
Once again I consider the "will write for donations!" thing. Or maybe will write / host your site? Hm. NEED MONEY PLX. :/ Man, that makes me sound greedy.
