Knights in the Nightmare and Godspeaker!

Two things I'm really enjoying right now... despite life otherwise sucking. (No comment, other than that I'm having illness related to stress fatigue right now.)

Knights in the Nightmare has a high learning curve at first, but I dutifully went through *all* the First Steps, Tutorial and Tips before starting. It was worth it. Though it looks complicated in explanation, actually PLAYING the game is fast and fun!! I'm moving my wisp around like a pro now, swapping items and knights in and out between turns, and lining up my 'kill bingo' (cause I mean, that's what it is. Kill bingo. You'd know what I mean if you played it.)

I admit to being really wowed by the presentation of the story, too. It actually has a very Valkyrie Profile-ish (the first one, anyway) feel with how the story and setting info is revealed gradually through the eyes of others (some of them dead, or soon to be dead). It really makes you want to play more, and later replay to get some of the knights you missed and find out more about their stories too.

As for the Godspeaker trilogy, I'm not sure WHAT it is about these books, but I start reading and just can't stop! I really do think it's because of the character-driven style. Karen Miller writes very compelling characters that you WANT to know more about, how they interact with each other, what fate lies in store for them. Right now I am mostly digging the connection between Rhian and Zandakar, and in general seeing the Mijakan prince from the perspective of an entirely different (Western European-ish) country.

I have less than 300 pages to go with Riven Kingdom before I go out to buy the last book in the trilogy. Aw. I wonder what I will read next??? I pondered grabbing Karen Miller's other series (Kingmaker, Kingbreaker) but I may try to rekindle my interest in reading by discovering some other new authors. There are some authors published in Canada that don't really see the light of day in the U.S.

Maybe I should just try to get a library card, at least it would give me something to do besides mope and stress a lot. Except I probably need an ID for that too. :/
