Birthday fun!
So we went out for Jon's 28th birthday. Just me and him, of course. We don't really have any friends here and I'm not very social any more. But I don't mind it just being the two of us.
We went out walking around in downtown Montreal. We didn't actually get out the door till almost 6 pm (laziness, mostly, slept in a lot 'cause Jon is ill), but still had fun. I got to buy Jon a new outfit and he looks good in it! And I bought him a necklace he thought was cool, too.
Then we had dinner at Reuben's, it's a steakhouse close to the mall we went to. Great food and service. I had a ribeye steak and Jon ordered a steak and cheese sandwich. We shared a 'chop-chop' poutine which was whoa! awesomely good! ('chop-chop' is apparently chopped smoked meat, I've never heard it called that before though.) Had to bring most back home 'cause we got so full from the poutine and salad.
Back from going out :O
Today was better for going out, it was cooler (there was some rain). I had some stressful periods but mostly I was all right.
I went to a nice Spanish restaurant. Oh no, I forgot the name already. (Figures!) but I got to have paella again. I *love* paella. It's a dish with saffron rice and usually some chicken or seafood with it. We got paella de marisco, the seafood kind -- it came with a crab claw and a half-lobster, too. Jon's crab claw was so huge he spent half the meal trying to crack it, hehe.
We also got appetizers, mmm. A really tasty seafood pastry, and gazpacho soup. Jon was calling me a dork because I told him the only reason I knew gazpacho soup was cold was because of watching Red Dwarf. I guess it is kind of dorky. ^^;
Back from Montreal!
So I'm back~
And we've got a lease for an apartment in Montreal. We put in the deposit, and are pretty much guaranteed to get it (apparently the landlady really likes us). We need to send over a few bits of information though, because we forgot to bring some documents. Wah.
Kalli was saying she helped us out by thinking about us getting a nice apartment the whole time. XD Woooo, voodoo powerz.
But it's a nice place. It's within walking distance of my college, a grocery store, pharmacy, hell... plenty of malls and restaurants too. It has a laundry room (mine right now does not. :O) It's on a low floor, which I really wanted -- I preferred having no one living below me so I could DDR to my heart's content. XD It's probably doubly as big as our current apartment.
Went out today, and sekrit project progression!
I spent last night getting the webhosting space and setting up my sekrit project. Man... it made me wish Drupal had better theming capabilities, cause wow... I am really pleased with the layout of that site. I shouldn't be waving around "loooooky i have a secret project!" when no one will even see it, but it still excites me 'cause I'm satisfied with the work, and I LOVE working on webstuff.
Speaking of not so secret projects, I am beginning to be tempted by making money through a reseller hosting account... like, not a LOT of money, but more like an experiment. I mean, nowadays reseller accounts start as low as $6/mo. I could get something pretty decent at $10/mo. All I'd really want is to see what I can do with it -- whether I can come up with a concept for low-cost (I'm talking, like, $2-3 a month) web accounts, likely paid through Paypal, that would at the *least* repay the cost of the reseller account -- and if more, it could even pay for my DR / PSU accounts, and my darksiren.net account. That would be sweet. :O
Oooh, but even BETTER news: I ordered my new computer! Finally!!
My Valentine's Day (a bit mushy, and long).
Wooooo, I had wine. (It was red, of course... a merlot.) Mmm. I totally don't hold my alcohol well. But, I still feel good.
We splurged and went to a really, *really* nice steakhouse called Charbon, not very far from where we live in Old Quebec. This place has the *perfect* ambiance for a romantic date. :O Warm (reddish hues) but not too bright lighting, spacious tables and seating... just perfect. The feeling I got from eating there is that they are a high class restaurant, but there isn't an elitist attitude to it, as if you have to be a certain KIND of person to get ideal service. Customer service and comfort is as highly ranked as their food, which is beyond fantastic.
I like fig newtons *nosh* also RP and PSU!
Like the title says... I got Jon to buy me fig newtons, and I am eating them. <3 (random~!)
Anyway, I ran ED today, and it went fairly well. I shouldn't get so enamored at my NPCs, but I liked portraying Jackal for Milena. His methods may not be good for the Realm in the long run, but he certainly thinks they are. Well, he's just one of those stubborn-to-a-fault Sids, I guess!
Milena's scene needs to continue sooner or later, I never got to bring out Elyssa. ;.;
Lim and Valeriya got more Vermillion talk and I sure hope that I didn't reveal so much the rest of the game is pointless. I don't think so though, since even without those revelations there is still plenty that can happen in the Realm to give PCs something to do. Besides that, they have to actually figure what to do with that knowledge, if anything.
Yesterday's recap, and what I'm doing today.
Yesterday, Jon and I went to my meeting, sleep deprived and all! Except when we got there, we ended up waiting in the lobby for an hour (?? maybe more) only to find out that the person taking care of my file is sick. Yeah, she called in sick for a week. I hope that she doesn't end up being REALLY ill because it will delay my processing even more. =_= That would be just my luck wouldn't it? I mean, wtf... I've been waiting for 3 YEARS. I really wish they'd just hurry the hell up with my papers already.
Fortunately, I was in a fairly good mood that day, and we went walking for a while afterwards (not too long, because it was getting cold and I didn't cover my legs enough... brrrrr) and ended up eating at a nice French/Italian restaurant. I forgot the name :( but, I had traditional French cooking there! French onion soup with gruyere (sp) cheese, and for the main dish a sort of casserole-ish dish, with white beans and carrot and sausage and duck thigh simmered in a ceramic pot in what tasted like a tomato-y base. Good but very filling.
Yesterday night...
I felt happier than I have in a long time. Simply because I finally went and did something about a person/situation that was bothering me for a while. And the result turned out all right, at least initially... though I am not sure what others will think of it.
That and I had some booze, heh. :D A whole glass of orange juice and apricot brandy mix. That's a lot... for me!
But now I'm more introspective, and I feel a little bit disappointed. I guess it's the anti-climactic aftermath? I'm not sure.
I guess that I feel like the few communities I'm in are splintering. Or I myself am breaking away, for whatever reasons. I feel I have less in common with people than ever before, and I have less fun doing things I normally enjoy. Part of that is my depression, but part of it -- as I've been saying a lot lately -- is just that I need another place to be.
Wiki tinkering, part 2... new year stuff!
Nyargh... I spent several more hours messing with PmWiki. I have such a love-hate with it sometimes. I ended up needing to look at where the default wikistyles were kept, and lo and behold, they're in scripts/wikistyles.php! DUH!
I had all this trouble with the Maguila skin because I wanted to make headings that weren't sidebar links, but it messed up the spacing all bad, so I needed to make a custom class. It didn't help that the CSS for Maguila doesn't seem very well-written. I mean, there's repeated elements everywhere, for one... I took out a few of the things I thought were redundant, but I'll have to clean it up more later.
I have a basic idea of how I'll organize the wiki now (including renaming/adding some projects), but I still have to mess with the right side bars. They're going to change depending on section, while the left one remains the same... I think.
I do feel kind of anticlimactic right now, having spent SO much time on New Years' Eve on this thing and I'm STILL not done, but I won't waste the rest of the night on it. So! Time to shower and get out the booze! We have apricot brandy and coffee liqueur and Thai food! It's just a celebration of 2, it looks like (unless I skype with some people, maybe.) I wish I could be happier, but... eh. :(
Christmas!
It was all right. Fun, ate lots of food, got presents (mostly money, but we also got a really nice wok, and I got a Harvest Moon game for the DS.) We got Jon's brother and dad all hooked on playing DDR, too, cause we brought our mats and game. So they've been playing it a lot.
Me, I'm starting to get more into difficult level. 4-5 is where I'm best, though. 6 only sometimes. -_- I kinda want to get DDR Supernova 2 now, since it recently came out. More songs!! and stuff! And if we get it tomorrow I bet Jon's bro will want to try it. :D
He also brought a Wii and we played it a bit. I'm not sure I'm sold on the Wii yet, as in... playing games that require motion sensing. I suppose it does work your arms out a lot though. :P But the only games I've really seen for it so far are party games, so I'm probably not getting the full extent of what the console is capable of.
