In the 9th year of Mezzenbone's rule, the Imperial Army commissioned a permanent Gate to the Lower Plains to be built. The Gate was completed after three decades of work, and instantly fell into the control of the Archdevil Asmodeus.

Though Mezzenbone himself escaped, the heart of the Empire was consumed by the denizens of the Lower Planes; Asmodeus granted to each of his subordinates one of the surrounding worlds, and bade them construct their own portals.

Chased from his throne, Mezzenbone has sent out a call for aid, petitioning the whole of the Empire for support in his campaign to banish Asmodeus back to the Nine Hells.

The Cabledancer is one of four sentient dreadnoughts that remain in commission in the Imperial Army. Created with a fusion of magic and soulmech technology, the Cabledancer's core holds the consciousness of the Ancient Copper Wyrm Shharivargrilar.

Shharivargrilar, being the capricious sort and not easily bent into the servitude of a Chromatic Emperor, has earned the Cabledancer a reputation in the Imperial Fleet as a wild card and a haven for the more mercenary members of the Imperial Army.
